Go Serve Sunnyside
West Sunnyside Community Church took the challenge from Mission USA to serve their community to heart and put their whole heart into loving the people around them. On Friday, June 26th, members gathered together and shared the love of Christ by delivering much-needed groceries to families around the church. In all, fifty-five boxes were prepared and given out. “With help from our church, family, friends, and work-family, we were able to make sixty boxes of groceries to pass out. We had so much that we were able to add cereal, milk, and oatmeal to the already long list. We passed out fifty-five boxes that included a ticket in the box. If they bring that ticket to us within the month of July, we have another gift waiting for them! We have enough left-over funds to go towards another project in which we are seeking the Lord’s guidance in what that should be.”
One of the most significant testimonies from West Sunnyside’s Go Serve day came from the following Sunday. Two families, who received a box of groceries, attended Sunday services, and after Senior Pastor Jonathan Fitzpatrick preached a soul-stirring message, one went to the altar to pray for healing. The Lord truly blessed the efforts of West Sunnyside and blessed many who received boxes of food.
Eric Cabrera, leader of West Sunnyside Community Church’s Go Serve day, reflected on the day by saying: “Man, oh man!! I was blessed with an awesome opportunity to go to a community that is within walking distance from my church, West Sunnyside Community Church. To say that the Lord provided is an understatement!! From getting the whole thing started with the idea, thanks to Matt Turner, to all the food, monetary, and time donations, and to going out and passing out the groceries, God was in this every step of the way. Now more than ever, I believe it is the job of the church to love on folks. We need to strive to reflect Him in every aspect of our lives. This #GOSERVE project was a great experience, and I’m looking forward to what the Lord has in store for us to do next. #strivetoreflect #thereflectmvmnt”
